Wow! SFSD is so grateful to the Sioux Falls STORM, LEVO, and media partners KELOLand TV for supporting Operation Hope & Caring where $18,417 was raised to support elementary schools that don't have PTAs/PTOs. We had a great time at the game and especially enjoyed the WIN! ❤️

As the weather gets warmer, golf might start to sound pretty nice, right? Well the girls golf team at Roosevelt High School is already hitting the links, ready to take on the competition! Sports like golf offer huge benefits to the girls involved: Leadership opportunities, scholarship possibilities, and self-development are just a few. But perhaps most important - it's FUN to participate and spend time with friends old and new! Learn more here.

It's a tradition going back decades: Graduating seniors from Washington High School walk the halls of Anne Sullivan Elementary in caps and gowns to applause and cheers, while simultaneously showing these young students where they will be after a few more years of hard work! For the seniors, many of whom attended Anne Sullivan, it's a chance to get some well-deserved praise and catch up with former teachers and staff members. For the elementary students, it's an inspiration that will soon come full circle. Meet a couple of former Anne Sullivan students who watched grad walks as kids, and are now the ones doing the inspiring. https://youtu.be/Poxz22LDLbk

Tonight is THE night! Come out to support SFSD elementary schools without PTAs/PTOs as the Sioux Falls STORM take on the Green Bay Blizzard. It's also Star Wars night, so wear your gear and bring your lightsaber to this fun family event sponsored by LEVO Credit Union!

Please be aware that throughout the day today, students at CTE Academy will be participating in a scheduled training with Sioux Falls first responders. Students in healthcare-related classes at CTE will have the opportunity to work alongside the Sioux Falls Police Department, Fire Department, and Patient Care EMS/Ambulance Service in disaster preparedness. Training scenarios will be happening all day at the CTE Academy. Police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances will be stationed at the building throughout the day. This hands-on training exercise is valuable to our students, but it is important to note that no "real" emergency is occuring.

As the end of the school year approaches, schools across SFSD set aside time to honor students who have made significant academic and personal achievements. All four high schools have held honoring ceremonies this past week to shine a spotlight on these exceptional students. National Honor Society, perfect attendance, straight A seniors, seal of biliteracy recipients, students of the month, and many more are all honored for their commitment to excellence. It was a milestone day for the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation! With Eugene Field A+ PE and dance teacher Courtney Wynthein's winning grant, the Education Foundation surpassed $1 million donated to teachers and classrooms! Long-time music and drama educator, and 2024 Teacher of the Year Finalist, Laura Tjaden was also honored for her tireless commitment to students as she nears retirement. Congratulations to all!

Earlier this week we congratulated Harvey Dunn Elementary librarian Jenny Boyle with the SFSD All-Star award. In this week's "Projects That Shine", let's take a look at her "One Book One School" program happening right now! When everyone in a building is reading the same book, it can create some amazing learning experiences and develop close community throughout an otherwise large school! Learn more about how the school community will come together to learn, grow, and share! https://youtu.be/KH1VjuMR7mo

The Weather Service indicates the greatest threat of severe weather did not materialize in Sioux Falls. We will begin our bus routes at approximately 3pm, so there will be a slight delay in getting elementary and middle school students home. High School dismisses at normal time.

Due to the weather 4-30-24, SFSD will hold all elementary students who walk or ride the bus until the system passes. We expect the system to arrive about 2:45pm and be done around 3pm. Busses will not leave the elementary schools until it is safe to do so. This will also cause a delay in middle school bus routes, so plan accordingly. If wx is still an issue at high school dismissal time, we will encourage students to wait to leave until the system passes. Thank you.

Weather may cause some challenges at school dismissal time today. SFSD will make plans with your child's safety as our highest priority. If there are changes, parents/guardians will be contacted immediately. We ask that you please monitor your phone and email closely.

Football & Star Wars Fans Unite! Fri, May 3-7:05pm Sioux Falls STORM take on the Green Bay Blizzard to support Operation Hope & Caring, a fundraiser for SFSD elementary schools without PTAs. Wear Star Wars gear, grab a light saber, and get in on the fun!

The girls PBL (Project Based Learning) team got 6th in the nation (!) for a project on Feeding South Dakota and another student placed 7th in financial literacy. Additionally, Morgan Putzier was able receive a scholarship through the opportunity. Congratulations on the wins!

A little "birdie" sent a few pictures of the new after-school Whittier Golf "Club" at their first "tee-time" at Kuehn Golf Course. It's no "bogey" that our Attendance Liaison, some teachers and volunteers are "putting" time into teaching 8th graders this game "fore" fun and exercise! Danny "Sink"sen of First Tee is assisting with the "Par-Tee." This promises to be a w"hole" lot of fun for Whittier students! Thanks to all who are making it possible!

Our female athletes continue to inspire! Taking advantage of everything high school athletics have to offer leads to leadership ability, incomparable teamwork skills, & networking expertise. Chloe can explain it better than we can: https://youtu.be/NcS1MpG4PG0

Thank you to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue for this amazing partnership! SFFR recently approached SFSD to ask how they might be able to partner with schools. A program was started with attendance liaisons at some schools to reward the classrooms with the best attendance with a special recess with firefighters! Students LOVE seeing SFFR pull up in the firetruck, and getting to play soccer and tag with them is an added bonus for great attendance!
