Please be aware that throughout the day today, students at CTE Academy will be participating in a scheduled training with Sioux Falls first responders. Students in healthcare-related classes at CTE will have the opportunity to work alongside the Sioux Falls Police Department, Fire Department, and Patient Care EMS/Ambulance Service in disaster preparedness. Training scenarios will be happening all day at the CTE Academy. Police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances will be stationed at the building throughout the day. This hands-on training exercise is valuable to our students, but it is important to note that no "real" emergency is occuring.

As the end of the school year approaches, schools across SFSD set aside time to honor students who have made significant academic and personal achievements. All four high schools have held honoring ceremonies this past week to shine a spotlight on these exceptional students. National Honor Society, perfect attendance, straight A seniors, seal of biliteracy recipients, students of the month, and many more are all honored for their commitment to excellence. Earlier this week we congratulated Harvey Dunn Elementary librarian Jenny Boyle with the SFSD All-Star award. In this week's "Projects That Shine", let's take a look at her "One Book One School" program happening right now! When everyone in a building is reading the same book, it can create some amazing learning experiences and develop close community throughout an otherwise large school! Learn more about how the school community will come together to learn, grow, and share! https://youtu.be/KH1VjuMR7mo

The Weather Service indicates the greatest threat of severe weather did not materialize in Sioux Falls. We will begin our bus routes at approximately 3pm, so there will be a slight delay in getting elementary and middle school students home. High School dismisses at normal time.
over 1 year ago, Sioux Falls School District
Due to the weather 4-30-24, SFSD will hold all elementary students who walk or ride the bus until the system passes. We expect the system to arrive about 2:45pm and be done around 3pm. Busses will not leave the elementary schools until it is safe to do so. This will also cause a delay in middle school bus routes, so plan accordingly. If wx is still an issue at high school dismissal time, we will encourage students to wait to leave until the system passes. Thank you.

Weather may cause some challenges at school dismissal time today. SFSD will make plans with your child's safety as our highest priority. If there are changes, parents/guardians will be contacted immediately. We ask that you please monitor your phone and email closely.

A little "birdie" sent a few pictures of the new after-school Whittier Golf "Club" at their first "tee-time" at Kuehn Golf Course. It's no "bogey" that our Attendance Liaison, some teachers and volunteers are "putting" time into teaching 8th graders this game "fore" fun and exercise! Danny "Sink"sen of First Tee is assisting with the "Par-Tee." This promises to be a w"hole" lot of fun for Whittier students! Thanks to all who are making it possible!

Thank you to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue for this amazing partnership! SFFR recently approached SFSD to ask how they might be able to partner with schools. A program was started with attendance liaisons at some schools to reward the classrooms with the best attendance with a special recess with firefighters! Students LOVE seeing SFFR pull up in the firetruck, and getting to play soccer and tag with them is an added bonus for great attendance!

Here's our end of week update for the 'Barbie Blog!' The baby piglets have been getting along so well! In fact, both piglets and mama (Barbie) are doing just fine. Students have been making sure that Barbie is stocked up with food and water, and making sure all the piglets get a spot with mama to get their fill of food. Earlier in the week veterinarians stopped by to assist with the normal piglet care, and the students and staff have been carrying things on from there. More from Barbie and her babies next week!

Time for a 🐽 Barbie Blog 🐖 update! There is now a livestream camera set up at CTE Academy where Barbie and her piglets are living. As you can see, momma and the babies are doing well. Barbie has more babies than she has spots at the dinner table to feed all her babies. Some of them that get enough food are put in a small basket to nap while the other smaller ones have a chance to eat. This is to make sure everyone's belly is full!! Make sure to turn the sound up to hear the occasional cute squeals! 🐷 https://www.youtube.com/live/rdyexhITAzc?feature=shared
