Community Campus provides full-day and half-day programming based on eligibility and the student’s individualized needs for transition services/programming. Programming for each student aligns with the adult services the young adults may access once they age out of services with the SFSD (i.e., meaningful day, supported employment/volunteering, or competitive employment). Instruction focuses on fostering independence, social skills, simple cooking, and daily living skills, as well as accessing the community to generalize learned skills. Depending upon each student, pre-vocational, supported vocational, or employment skills instruction is incorporated into each program.
Project SEARCH is an extraordinary life transition program for young adults with disabilities. It gives individuals who want to work a chance to explore careers and develop transferable job skills in a structured and accommodating environment. Designed as an internship program, Project SEARCH places participants in real-world situations where they learn all aspects of gaining and maintaining a job. Students who participate in the Project SEARCH @ Sanford must have a desire to work in the community at the conclusion of their experience. Previous work experience and the ability to work independently after training are prerequisites for the Project SEARCH @ Sanford program.
