Whittier Middle School celebrated its 100th Anniversary today with a party that not even the snow and cold could stop! The morning was filled with history lessons, student-led school tours, hot chocolate and cookies, and, most importantly, connecting with others who have felt the strong positive impact of Whittier over the last 100 years. Along the way, we met a three-generation Whittier family walking the halls and reminiscing about experiences at school unique to them. Lots of laughs and great memories filled the walls of Whittier, and it was so fun to witness!

Ever wonder what a principal does on a snow day? A room full of school leaders spent today learning more about how to keep students engaged in school when behaviors take them off track. SFSD believes every student can be successful!

There will be NO school and no activities tomorrow, Friday, December 16, 2022 due to weather. There will be no Kids Inc. School offices will, however, be open. Please stay safe.

SFSD schools are 2 hours late Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022. No am practices or activities. No breakfast. Early Childhood/Preschool Families should check email for specific guidance. Please travel safely.

The Sioux Falls School District is collaborating with local community non-profits to enhance after-school programming at all levels.
Initial changes will begin at the elementary level after Sioux Falls Thrive assembled an After-School Time Action Team to address student safety during after-school hours. A study conducted by Augustana Research Institute in 2018 estimated 4,800 elementary-aged students within the SFSD spend time unsupervised during after-school and summer hours, with more than 1,400 of those students spending more than 15 hours a week unsupervised.
Starting in 2023-2024, SFSD elementary schools will transition to the Community Learning Center Model in all buildings to provide safe, structured, high-quality programming that develops students for a successful future. The District’s long running, successful Kids Inc. program will provide the framework for these improvements.
