Time to celebrate National School Social Work Week 2023! This week we are guided by the School Social Work Association of America theme “We Rise.” School Social Workers work with students, families, and staff each day and every day to meet their challenges and do so with strength and resilience. School Social Workers rise up - supporting their students, families, and school communities. School Social Workers rise to share hope. They rise to listen and understand. They rise to challenge inequities. They rise to support all students. So celebrate the impactful work your social worker is doing with your families!

Today is Read Across America day! What a great way to kick off a month of reading throughout the SFSD. Let's celebrate the books that inspire our students to dream big and expand their knowledge. Take some time to open a book today!

Congrats to 6th Grade Patrick Henry Math Teacher, Megan Horkey for being this weeks All Star! ⭐
Megan was nominated for this award by McKenzie Erickson who shared how much of a giver she is within the walls of Patrick Henry. McKenzie went on to say, "She gives her time in so many different areas such as Student Council advisee, Sunshine Committee co-leader, PBIS committee member, and scheduling committee member. Through all of these different committees that she is a part of, she continues to show up each and every day for her students with a smile on her face. She is pursuing her degree in Administrative Leadership through Wayne State while balancing everything else thrown her way in the middle school world. Megan has a heart for teaching and does it with so much passion and desire to be and do the best for each and every one of her students."
Congratulations, Megan!

Congratulations to our next SFSD All Star, Denise Logan! ⭐
Denise is an EL Liaison at Whittier Middle School. She was nominated for this award by Kelly Spillman-Kramer who shared this about Denise, "We have had many days where a bus has arrived late or a substitute bus driver has had to re-run a route, both this year and last. Denise has gone out and stood with students while waiting for the bus, rain or shine, hot or cold, as well as given students a ride to school when their bus has not arrived. She has done this not just for EL students, but all our students. She is constantly looking out for our kids, making sure they are safe and arriving to school. Denise goes above and beyond to help our students at Whittier."
We are thankful for Denise and her contribution to Whittier and the Sioux Falls School District!

Due to the ongoing winter storm, there will be no school in the Sioux Falls School District Thursday, February 23, 2023. School and District offices WILL open at Noon Thursday.

Sioux Falls is a unique place. When people recognize a need, they fill it. Today, employees of Central Bank used their Presidents’ Day to fill the food gap left by a day off from school. Central Bank employees, along with Hy-Vee, prepared sack lunches for children at Anne Sullivan, Garfield, and Hayward, chosen because they are connected to Community Centers. Employees were happy to use a day away from the bank for this community service project. SFSD is blessed with many community partners. Some have provided long-standing support to schools. Others, like Central Bank, recently recognized a need and developed a plan to get food to families when school is not in session. Thank You, Central Bank, for your commitment to Sioux Falls and to our kids!
