Whether it's front office staff or custodial, child nutrition or education assistants, SFSD is always working to make sure our staff have continued training to be the best at what they do! This morning, administrators from across the District joined together for a welcome back meeting to prepare for the upcoming school year. While we work hard every day to provide the best education for our students, continuing education for staff is also a top priority.

We're rolling out the red carpet 🎉 to get ready for back to school! 🏫 Today SFSD welcomed back clerical and specialist staff with a special training focused on "The SFSD Experience" (more to come on that soon 👀). Today is also the first day back for principals, and next week SFSD office hours return normal school year hours ⏰ (check with your school for exact times). The first day of school (Thursday, August 22nd) will be here before we know it!
The marching band season is officially underway! At Lincoln High School, where the marching band has seen some incredible success in recent years at Bands of America Super Regionals at both St. Louis and Indianapolis, and where the band has been invited to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in November, there are 80 brand new members to the marching band this year. That means a lot of freshmen. Yesterday was the first day of SPAT Camp for new members and leadership of the horn line. Follow one of these freshmen as they experience a full day of marching band work for the first time.

The summer youth orchestra, put on through Community Ed, is a great way for students with a love of music to continue to practice their craft during the summer months. They were busy in June and ended their time with a performance at Edison Middle School. You can enjoy that video here!

Hey World! Meet Mason!
Mason, a 2024 LHS graduate, has been working with SFSD for over two years to help record concerts, photograph events, and help out in all aspects of the A/V production world. During the 2023-2024 school year, SFSD created about 425 original video programs for KLRN TV, Your Sioux Falls Classroom Connection. Mason spent many evenings behind a camera recording concerts and events. He has also began the laborious process of sorting through hundreds of video tapes, from various formats, dating back more than 40 years, and digitizing them for the modern age and public accessibility. Summer school students at the Elementary Immersion Center spent the morning learning the great summer sport of baseball! Big thanks to 5Tool Sports for volunteering their time to teach these kids all the basics. The team also stepped up and donated all the gear that they have outgrown or don't use anymore for students to take home if they want to pursue the sport! EIC students are either new to the country or speak limited english and they had a fantastic morning learning all about the great American pastime!
