She was nominated for this award by Child Nutrition Supervisor, Gay Anderson who had this to say about her, "This has been a very hard school start for our department and Karen has been in the middle from beginning to end to get things aligned with menus changes, menu shortages and other things that have tried to hold her work back. She has remained dedicated putting in extra time and assuring our students are safe."

SFSD students had a direct line of communication with SD Secretary of Education Tiffany Sanderson today. The Superintendent's Youth Advisory Council welcomed Sanderson at their quarterly meeting to discuss higher ed, workforce, and student assessment.

March is National Social Worker Month! Social workers are an incredible asset to the Sioux Falls School District. They play a vital role in helping our students and families in need by empowering them with skills, knowledge, resources, and encouragement to overcome life's challenges. Social workers touch so many lives throughout their careers. This year's Social Work Month theme is "The Time is Right for Social Work." We believe this resonates because social workers are on the frontlines helping our nation overcome a variety of current challenges.

This award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence along with high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court. Mwenentanda is the very first Gatorade South Dakota Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Washington High School. She is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in March.

Laura Wilder Elementary fourth and fifth-grade band and orchestra students (and their teachers) have been working hard over the past few months. They have been learning how to play new notes, new ways to play their instruments, and new songs to showcase in their upcoming concert. Earlier this morning, these students got to show off their musical talents in front of classmates at a matinee performance. Later tonight, families will fill the gym and get to see the hard work of their students pay off. This concert is just one of many other band, orchestra, choir, and fine arts performances coming up this spring. Be sure to check our events calendar so you don't miss out!
