groundbreaking

On the afternoon of Monday, September 18th, 2023, members of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, the Sioux Falls School Board and Mayor Paul TenHaken broke ground on the newest addition to the Sioux Falls School District, the Northwest Elementary School.

The school is the final piece of the $190 million capital improvement bond, which was passed in 2018 with 85% voter approval. It will be built in the vicinity of George McGovern Middle School and will serve residents in the rapidly growing northwest area of Sioux Falls.

This *yet to be named* school will be home to about 680 students. This will take strain off of schools that are reaching capacity and better serve the residents of our growing city.

The approved bid for construction is $22,113,350 from Empire Builders. Construction will begin soon and the school is set to be completed and ready for students for the fall 2025 school year.
