Students attend a college and career fair

High school students across the Sioux Falls School District spent the week of October 27–30 preparing for their futures during Career Days. Every student—from freshmen to seniors—participated in a full day of activities designed to help them explore college, career, and postsecondary opportunities.

Freshmen kicked off their experience at the CTE Academy, where they rotated through sessions highlighting the wide variety of programs available, from auto body repair and culinary arts to health sciences and digital media. The CTE Academy provides SFSD students with hands-on learning experiences that not only fulfill graduation requirements but also offer college credit and a head start toward their future careers.

Each day of the week was dedicated to one high school—Monday for Jefferson, Tuesday for Lincoln, Wednesday for Roosevelt, and Thursday for Washington. Seniors met face-to-face with potential employers, military representatives, and college recruiters, gaining insight into a range of postsecondary options. Breakout sessions throughout the day offered additional opportunities to hear from guest speakers and community professionals about career readiness and next steps after graduation.

Students chose visits based on their interests and had the chance to tour facilities, meet with college representatives, and learn more about academic programs, campus life, and financial aid. These experiences help students envision what their postsecondary journeys could look like and make more informed decisions about their futures.
