❤ February is Kindness Month: Spread Love and Positivity! ❤ It's a time for us to show love, compassion, and goodwill to each other. We can all make a big difference in someone's day, even with small acts of kindness. At Hayward, we believe in being kind not just in the classroom, but everywhere we go. Smiling, saying kind words, and helping others creates a caring and inclusive environment for everyone in our school. Let's challenge ourselves to do nice things for others, say thank you, and lift each other up. Together, we can create a positive impact that lasts all year long, not just during Kindness Month.

Our district is blessed with many great educators. This year, 70 teachers in the school district were recognized by families for their tireless effort in the classroom. Three of those nominees are teachers are at Hayward Elementary, hats off to Mrs. Wehmeyer in kindergarten, Mrs. Siegel in third grade, and Mrs. Gabrielson in fourth grade! In addition to the district recognizing standout educators, there were 78 special education staff across the state of South Dakota recognized by the families they serve for all the love and work they pour into their students. Mrs. Schieffer and Mrs. Knutson, both resource educators at Hayward, were honored as nominees as well. What an honor it is to have these five ladies call Hayward their home ❤

Winter can be tough but you don't have to do it alone. If you are struggling with things this winter, consider these community resources: Call 211 for a complete and updated lists of resources and opportunities in the community. Great Life has partnered with Center of Hope to give out winter gear. If this is a need, call Hayward and speak to the secretaries who will get your name to our school social worker for a referral. If utilities are becoming a burden, check with Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership (605-334-2808) or Minnehaha County Human Services (605-367-4217).

On January 17th, districts from across the state come together to show the love to our South Dakota Public Schools! ❤️ Our public schools provide the foundation of education, but also foster a sense of community, instilling the core values of hard work, kindness, and resilience in our students, among others. They offer a safe and inclusive environment where students and staff shape a brighter future for our community both today and beyond. Our South Dakota Public Schools are the heart of our community, nurturing the minds and spirits of our children, and embodying the essence of what makes our state so special. What’s your “why” when it comes to supporting our local schools? Is it the sense of community that brings us all together? The Midwest values that define us? The daily routines that make us who we are? Or maybe it’s the knowledge that we’re part of something bigger, something that shapes the future. Please save the picture in this post and update your profile picture for the day. Let’s light up our digital world with our love for South Dakota Public Schools! 💙 Don’t forget to use the hashtag #LovePoweredbySDPublicSchools. It’s a way for us to unite, to make our presence known, and to shine a spotlight on our unwavering support for education. For 24 hours, let’s make our digital world reflect the passion we have for our schools!
