❤️ Mr. L Kindness Day – Monday, March 9 ❤️
This Monday, March 9, we will celebrate our first annual Mr. L Kindness Day as we remember and honor a very special member of the Garfield family.
Throughout the day, staff and students will be encouraged to share Random Acts of Kindness to celebrate the joy and positivity Mr. L brought to our school community. Mr. L had a special way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for, and we want to continue spreading that same spirit of kindness throughout our building.
Students and staff are also invited to Dress for Mr. L by wearing a favorite jersey, Garfield spirit wear, or a favorite band t-shirt—things that reflect the interests and personality that made Mr. L so special.
This day is a celebration of the wonderful person Mr. L was and a reminder for all of us to carry forward the kindness he shared with others every day. 💙

☀️ Sidewalks + Math = The Perfect Lesson! 🧮
3rd grade took math outside yesterday and turned the sidewalk into their classroom! Students practiced solving math equations with chalk while enjoying the beautiful weather. Learning is always more fun with a little fresh air, creativity, and colorful sidewalks! ✏️🌈

🌲🍄 K05 had a wild day of learning during our forest-themed classroom day in Mrs. W’s room! From woodland fun to hands-on activities, students explored, created, and used their imaginations all day long. It was so much fun watching our little explorers learn and grow together in their forest adventure! 🦌🌿📚

Get ready for a day full of fun, teamwork, and activity! Field Day is coming up on Friday, May 15th at Sherman Park (Soccer Field).
🕘 Schedule:
• Grades 3–5: 8:20–10:50 AM
• Grades K–2: 12:10–2:30 PM
Students will rotate through 15 exciting stations—get ready to move, play, and have a great time with your class!
🎒 What to bring & wear:
• Refillable water bottle (labeled)
• Tennis shoes & lightweight clothing
• Sunscreen (apply before school)
• Hat or sunglasses (optional)
• Extra socks (grass may be wet!)
🍴 Lunch will be provided at school (or students may bring their own).
🐒 Bonus Fun: It’s Jungle Dress-Up Day! Feel free to wear jungle-themed outfits (weather-appropriate).

Our 5th graders had a great time on Thursday during their field trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium! 🦒🐘
Students explored a wide range of exhibits, discovered animals from around the world, and enjoyed a day of learning beyond the classroom. From fascinating habitats to unique animal encounters, there was plenty to keep everyone engaged and curious throughout the day. 🌍🦁

We’re excited for our upcoming Multicultural Family Night, and we’d love for as many families as possible to participate! This special event is a chance to share and celebrate the many cultures in our community.
Families are invited to bring a cultural dish, teach others about their traditions, or learn from one another. If bringing food isn’t your thing, you can participate in other ways—such as performing a cultural dance, sharing music, or showcasing something meaningful from your culture. If winter decides to stick around a little longer and snow is in the forecast, we will keep families updated later this week using multiple communication methods.
