Your preteen is navigating their first summer without childcare. Older siblings are caring for younger siblings at home and meal preparation is a little too much responsibility. You’ve hired a teenage companion to take your kids to the parks, camps, and activities but this means funds are tight for food.
These are all real scenarios playing out in homes and apartments across Sioux Falls. That’s why the Sioux Falls School District is proud to, once again, offer free breakfasts and lunches to all children, ages 1-18 during June and July 2023.
Using meal counts from previous summers, the Office of Child Nutrition established a schedule for breakfast to be offered at eight schools on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Lunch will be served Mondays through Thursdays at six locations and Monday through Friday at two locations. The schedule will be emailed to SFSD families and will be posted on the District’s website: sf.k12.sd.us. No income eligibility paperwork is required..

We have become aware of a scam circulating that appears as if SFSD Child Nutrition Coordinator Gay Anderson is asking people to go out and purchase large dollar amounts of gift cards. Gay has NOT sent out a text or an email. Her communication devices appear to have been hacked. Please delete any communication and do not follow through with the request. We apologize for this inconvenience.

**Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation**
Todd Huisman & Cynthia Breen from Terry Redlin Elementary received the 40th Public School Proud Grant! They will use $1,309.90 for their proposal, “Bringing Mindfulness to Life!” With grant dollars, they will purchase 20 Zenimals kits for grades K-5 that will help students focus on self-regulation strategies. In the proposal, they wrote, “When students approach new tasks, they can often feel overwhelmed. The use of a Zenimal can help with mood, thought patterns, and emotions. The Zenimal has nine different types of meditation to help students become calm and more at peace. The toolbox works on breathing, stillness, inspiration, relaxation, sleep, empathy, gratitude, awareness, and restoration. All of these areas of focus are key for students to be successful in the classroom when approaching grade level expectations. When we can help students recognize when one of these areas is off balance and address the issue in a calm and positive way, we can get students back on task and ready to learn.” Thank you, First PREMIER Bank!! Congrats Eagles!

Terry Redlin had our "Earth Day" school ground clean up day today. Students picked up 20 bags of trash around the school. Way to GO! 102 students got to enjoy some chalk time when they got done.

Yesterday the Kindergarten students had a "Staycation" Field Trip. The Great Plains Zoo Mobile made a visit. The students were HAPPY AS A HIPPO!

Students from 601, 602 & 603 last Friday took a trip to the Washington Pavilion & also had lunch at McDonald's. What a FUN day!

After a long couple weeks of testing, 401 students took a break to celebrate Earth week. They learned about the importance of flowers and pollination to our environment. They each planted flower seeds that they will care for as a class and watch grow over the coming weeks.

Kid Link Families: Next Safety & Community meeting will be held on Thursday, April 20th from 5:30-6:30pm in the library.

The stats are troubling-47% of SFSD students qualify for free/reduced lunches. Their family's income is not enough to make ends meet. That makes it difficult to support school fundraisers. Operation Hope & Caring helps! Get your tickets to the SF STORM game to support schools!
