Our second grade scientists in 202 became nature detectives! We headed outside to observe a habitat and discover the living things all around us. We looked closely at animals, plants, and other parts of nature, paying attention to the details we noticed. Then, we sketched what we observed and recorded our discoveries like real scientists! We are learning that habitats provide living things with what they need to survive and that even the smallest details can teach us something new. Way to go, scientists!

Huge "Thank You" to Curt Aasheim from Canton, SD for the generous donation of pumpkins for our Kindergarten and First Grade students. We are so grateful for his thoughtfulness!!

Students in 403 worked in groups to make miniature wind turbines during Science. They are taking on the role of city engineers and deciding if they think a town experiencing blackouts should install new solar panels or wind converters based on what they are reading, along with hands-on and computer simulated experiments.

K01 and K02 students had a great field trip to the Butterfly House and Aquarium!

Our 5th Grade students have been working hard to prepare for our upcoming Musical Concert! All 5th Grade students will participate in our concert called Emerald Middle School the Musical. We'd love to see you on November 5th at 8:30am or 6:45pm!

Our 101 friends are absolutely crushing their math unit on place value! Students worked with partners to build numbers using tens and ones and then compared the numbers to find which was greater! Way to go, 101!

Monday, October 12th is a NO SCHOOL day in observance of Native American Day!! Please consider attending the parade in downtown Sioux Falls to support your friends at Harvey Dunn. We will have a group of students and teachers walking in the parade and would love to see you!! The parade begns at 11:00am on Phillips Avenue.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and Avera presented a fun, interactive puppet show to our Kindergarten classes. Students received important information about smoke detectors; home evacuation plans; stop, drop and roll; go low and crawl out, and hot water safety. Your kindergarten student was encouraged to count the smoke detectors in their home tonight. If your family needs assistance with smoke detectors, you may call 2-1-1 Helpline Center! Thank you SFFR and Avera for spending time with our students!
