The SFSD is having it's "Summer Meal Program" this summer. Meals are free for all children ages 1 - 18, you do not have to register, and all are welcome!

Fourth and fifth grade students auditioned for the Discovery Talent Show! One hundred students auditioned and ten acts were selected. The acts performed for Discovery students, and then they took the show on the road and performed for our neighbors at Edgewood Assisted Living. You can check out the performance at Edgewood at https://youtu.be/WxP6zlZiFcY.

Classrooms 403, 404, 405, and 406 put their math and science skills to work and made kites. Yesterday was the perfect day to fly them!

Today, there are two Talent Show performances for parents/guardians who have a student that is performing. Unfortunately, this event is NOT open to all Discovery families due to seating capacity.
→ However, we wanted to make you aware as there may be congestion at dismissal due to the afternoon performance. ←
Doors for each performance will open 10 minutes before it starts. If you come early, you will have to wait in the front entryway. The Talent Show is about 40 minutes.
• The first performance is at 11:30 am. Doors will open at 11:20 am.
• The second performance is at 1:45 pm. Doors will open at 1:35 pm.

Reminder! Lost & Found items not claimed by 3:00 pm today will be donated.

On May 1, classrooms 405 and 406 delivered “May Day” baskets to residents at Edgewood Prairie Crossings. #givingback #community #neighbors

Fourth grade students had a race-off today and there were two winners from each classroom - we have some future “Track & Field” stars!

As the school year is winding down, we are going to try and keep up with our “Lost & Found”. We have quite a few water bottles and hoodies. Items not claimed by Tuesday, May 13, at 3:00 pm will be donated.

Did you forget to order a yearbook? We have five available for sale! The cost is $20 payable in the office via cash or check. Cash payments need to be the exact amount because we do not have change. Checks should be written out to Discovery Elementary.

Classroom 402 did their first activity with Mr. Stanford’s new Stem Cart! Students had a lot of fun and were busy designing, measuring, cutting, building, and testing. They built sail cars that were powered by the wind. Students tested different sizes and shapes of sails to determine which sails made the cars go further. Lastly, students made adjustments to their base car to try and get it to sail as far as possible.

Classroom K04 is learning about the butterfly life cycle and incorporated it into their symmetry math lesson. They discussed how butterflies have symmetrical wings. Students reviewed 2D shapes and then used them to make their own symmetrical butterfly!

For Discovery PTO’s annual Discovery Day Bash to be a success, PTO is asking for volunteers. There are 30 minute time-slots available for set-up, running a game, or clean-up. If you can help, sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C44ADAD2CA3FF2-56026061-discovery#/.
→ PTO will have to cancel some of the games and activities if there are not enough volunteers to help with all of them. ←
Students/older siblings are welcome to volunteer; however, if they are under the age of 13, they need to volunteer with an adult. This year’s event is particularly special as it’s Discovery's 20th anniversary, making it a milestone event for the school and community - please help make it a success!

A HUGE thank you to these 4th grade students who helped again with another project in the office during their lunch. You are appreciated!

Just like classroom K05, Student Council also celebrated Earth Day last Tuesday by picking up garbage around the school and enjoying the sun!

Discovery yearbooks are here and will be sent home with students today! If you did not order a yearbook and would like one, we have a limited amount available. We will not hold one - they are available on a first come, first served basis. The cost is $20 payable in the office via cash or check. Cash payments need to be the exact amount because we do not have change. Checks should be written out to Discovery Elementary.

It’s not everyday that your principal pushes you on the tire swing during recess! #elementaryprincipal #recessfun #studentprincipal

Last Tuesday, classroom K05 celebrated Earth Day by picking up garbage around the school, “grounding” with the grass, and soaking up the sun!
