REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Qualifies for principal or administrative certification with the state of South Dakota or holds a Master’s or Doctoral degree in School Counseling, Social Work or a related field.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

A minimum of four years of previous experience as a teacher, counselor, social worker, or related occupation as determined by Sioux Falls School District. Previous administrative experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing, intermittent dialing, keyboarding, speaking, walking, sitting, grasping, holding, indexing, scheduling, and writing.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of best educational practices and effective school’s research. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management.

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:

Assistant Superintendent of Academic Achievement and the Director of Curriculum, Federal Programs, and Libraries

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  1. Program Leadership – Oversees the District’s counseling and social work programs, including coordinating assignments for counselors, student success coordinators, social workers, and interns.  Provides leadership as the Reunification Branch Chief, Crisis Teams Administrator, and member to the MTSS District Leadership Team.

  2. Staff Supervision and Evaluation – Provides supervision and supports the evaluation of counselors and student success coordinators.  Provides supervision and completes evaluations for social workers, K-12 Career Counselor, Office of Indian Education staff and liaisons.

  3. Professional Development – Designs and implements professional development initiatives for counselors, student success coordinators, OIE liaisons, and social workers to enhance program effectiveness.

  4. Federal Program Administration – Manages three federal programs:  Title VII, Johnson O’Malley, and McKinney-Vento Homeless Education, including budget development and ensuring compliance with regulations.

  5. Indian Education Program Management – Directs and supervises the Indian Education Program, ensuring alignment with district and federal guidelines.

  6. Homeless Education Program Oversight – Leads the Homeless Education Program, ensuring support for students experiencing housing instability.

  7. Program Evaluation and Planning – Assesses program effectiveness through needs analysis, comprehensive planning, and regular evaluations.  This includes maintaining Counseling curriculum.

  8. Reporting and Compliance – Prepares and submits annual reports to federal and state agencies, ensuring accurate and timely compliance.

  9. Data Management – Maintains student information and directories for individuals served by the programs, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.

  10. Issue Resolution – Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative/building administrators/staff to resolve issues pertaining to elevated parent/student concerns.

  11. Community Engagement – Builds and maintains strong relationships with parent organizations, community members, and professional, civic, and service organizations.

  12. Additional Responsibilities – Performs other duties as assigned to support the district’s mission and goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS

CLIMATIC ENVIRONMENT | Both Inside & Out

Some District classrooms and work areas are not climate controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity. The work environment will be both indoors and outdoors in extremely cold and warm temperatures. The  Supervisor of Indian Education must be able to drive to various locations in and outside the city limits.

HAZARDS

For some buildings, stairs, chalk dust and exposure to communicable diseases may be a potential hazard.  Travel will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
