REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Education Specialist degree in School Psychology; South Dakota Certification or licensure; South Dakota Teacher Certificate

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Successful internship in school psychology. Interns welcome to apply. Candidates with BCBA credentials are encouraged to apply.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant hearing, hand-eye and mind-eye coordination; frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers, scheduling, sitting, speaking, walking, talking and writing are required.  The ability to drive a car is required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Competence in completing assessments, developing interventions, and consulting with others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  1. Conducts individual psychometric assessments and interpretation of evaluation results to design individualized student plans.

  2. Assist teams in navigating special education processes and procedures.

  3. Participates in building problem-solving team meetings and supports a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model for delivering academic and behavioral interventions.

  4. Monitor student progress. Collect and interpret student and classroom data.

  5. Assess diverse learning needs and provide culturally responsive services to students.

  6. Utilizes evaluation and intervention techniques consistent with current professional standards.

  7. Builds interpersonal relationships and establishes positive rapport with students, colleagues, administrators and parents.

  8. Establishes student success as a primary goal and provides opportunities for students to experience success.  Contributes to a learning climate that promotes the orderly behavior of students while maintaining the dignity and positive self-concept of each student.

  9. Monitor and effectively communicate with parents about student progress. Consults with teachers, parents and school personnel to enhance school performance.

  10. Plan appropriate programs and interventions for students with learning, behavior and social needs. Works directly with students or families to help solve problems related to learning and mental health.

  11. Seeks out and participates in professional growth experiences. Uses a growth mindset and displays a desire for continuous improvement.

  12. Provides counseling, social skills training, behavior management and other interventions.

  13. Connects families with community service providers when necessary.

  14. Evaluates the effectiveness of academic programs, behavior management procedures and other services provided in the school setting.

  15. Conducts research to generate new knowledge to improve learning and behavior.

  16. Participates in school and District committees and abides by Board policies, rules, and special education guidelines.

  17. Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.

  18. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

WORKING CONDITIONS

CLIMATIC ENVIRONMENT | Both Inside & Out

Some District classrooms and work areas are not climate controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity. The itinerant status of this position requires exposure to the outside environment as travel between schools is required.

HAZARDS

Stairs, drafts, chalk dust, use of furniture and tables designed for primary students and exposure to communicable diseases. Travel between schools will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
