Education Level

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or comparable/equivalent degree/level from another country.

Experience Desired

Three to five years of experience working with refugee, immigrant and migrant families or organizations. Depending on the position, bilingual speaking ability may be required.

Physical Requirements

Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination and hearing; intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, dialing, filing, grasping, indexing, keyboarding, lifting, driving, and speaking are required.

Other Requirements

Must have an ability to acquire a comprehensive working knowledge of school district policies as they relate to state and federal rules and regulations. Must be able to communicate effectively with Indian, refugee, immigrant and migrant students and their parents. Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance.

Essential Functions & Duties

1. Serves as a liaison between the District and families relative to attendance, school enrollment, health issues, tardiness, and cultural programs.
2. Effectively communicates with students and families regardless of any language barriers or seeks alternatives for interpretation.
3. Completes all time and effort reports.
4. Facilitates transportation solutions for students and parents for school attendance and meeting purposes.
5. Advocates for ELL students and their families as assigned by a supervisor.
6. Designs and coordinates meetings for parent and/or student information or training opportunities regarding acculturation issues related to education.
7. Promotes parental involvement in the schools and is the link between the school and home to help families understand the expectations for their children’s success in school.
8. Available to work day/evening hours and/or a split shift.
9. Performs other duties that may be assigned by the administration.

Working Conditions

Climatic Environment - Inside and Outside

Work is occasionally conducted in a comfortable environment. Intermittently subjected to cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees.

Hazards

Occasionally subject to atmospheric conditions of odors, mists, and poor ventilation. Exposure to communicable diseases. Travel to various locations in and outside the city limits will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
