BA/BS Education Preferred

Experience Desired

High school head coaching experience desired.

Physical Requirements

Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit. The ability to travel between locations.

Other Requirements

Fundamentals of Coaching or Equivalent (must be completed one time); Sports First Aid or Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries or equivalent (must be renewed once every two years); Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know (must be renewed on an annual basis.

Essential Functions & Duties

A. Assumes responsibility for the entire program including:
1. coaches the varsity squad,
2. supervises assistant coaches 9-12,
3. determines athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time, in conjunction with assistant coach at the respective level.
4. positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and the community,
5. gives guidance to middle school coaches and programs feeding into respective high schools,
6. implements District athletic department polices.
B. Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
C. Works with the Coordinator of Athletics and building Activities Principal in:
1. formulation of game schedules
2. selection of contest officials
3. arrangements for out-of-town trips
4. arrangements for physical examinations
5. preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists
6. preparation of budgets, equipment and supply requisitions
7. solicitation of athletic insurance
8. scouting arrangements
9. planning of new facilities and/or modification of existing facilities
10.organization of middle school clinics as directed by Athletic Advisory Council and assist middle school coaches in their related programs
11.direction of the Monogram Club with other coaches
D. Works with building athletic director to correlate the practice schedules of the ninth, sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity squads.
E. Supervises dressing rooms and playing area during and following periods of team participation
F. Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games.
G. Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
H. Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
I. Prepares award lists and collects athletic fees.
J. Attends all conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved. Operates within the policies of the conference and SDHSAA.
K. Works closely with custodians in control at facilities.
L. Keeps informed on current trends in designated sport and participates in respective clinics.
M. Maintains active membership in related professional organization.
N. Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contest.
O. Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches.
P. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Coordinator of Athletics.

Working Conditions

Climatic Environment - Inside and Outside

Often subjected to extremes of cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Occasionally subjected to extreme noise, odors, mists, dust and poor ventilation.

Hazards

Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases. Travel between locations will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.

Work Year

Extra duty/extra pay positions are for a fiscal year (July 1-June30). Duties of the position may be performed any time during that time period depending upon the position/season.
