Physical Requirements

Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant standing and walking. Frequent hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting and stooping. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Occasional crawling and crouching.

Other Requirements

Must pass a test of aptitudes showing basic knowledge of position, and subsequently be certified by state through testing to be a licensed herbicide and pesticide applicator. Current State Vehicle operator’s license; ability to operate all vehicles in the district fleet safely. Insurable. Ability to work unsupervised. Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction. Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training.

Essential Functions & Duties

Howard Wood Field (Lead)*

  1. Coordinates all activities with Coordinator of Athletics.

  2. Coordinates and directs Groundskeeper II, summer part-time crews and part-time cleanup crews.

  3. Maintains synthetic turf athletic areas.

  4. Marks fields and sites for athletic events.

  5. Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, landscaping, sidewalks, steps, entrances and keeps other areas free of snow or ice. Removes bottles, trash, paper and cans from entire site.

  6. Cleans and supplies areas assigned by daily cleaning schedule; cleans walls, lights, induction units, windows, fieldhouse, public restrooms, concession stands, spectator stands, grounds and parking areas.

  7. Maintains and performs minor repairs of equipment and vehicles used. Operates and performs minor maintenance on irrigation system, heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical and mechanic systems. Observes and reports needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building/site to Plant Maintenance Supervisor and performs minor maintenance.

  8. Orders and replenishes supply items.

  9. Operates laundry equipment for purpose of washing towels, uniforms, etc. for various school programs.

  10. Secures building and field.

  11. Performs plant maintenance duties relating to Howard Wood Field during Howard Wood work schedule.

Plant Maintenance Technician*

*Duration to be determined annually

  1. Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, automatic sprinkler, fire alarms, plumbing, sewer, clock and communication, playground, grounds care and other building furnishings, systems and equipment.

  2. Maintains assigned vehicle, tools and equipment. Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to manager.

  3. Performs site maintenance and report work at all District facilities, such as snow removal, including operating truck-mounted snowplows and sanding equipment; concrete and asphalt repair; operating equipment to clean playgrounds and parking lots; flagpole/rope repair; lawn care and tree maintenance.

  4. Provides miscellaneous maintenance services at all District facilities, such as replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes where scaffold is needed; remove graffiti from surfaces; deliver and/or move supplies, materials, furniture and equipment.

Both

  1. Works a revised schedule during emergency periods and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.

  2. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.

  3. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

  4. Responds to facility emergencies when necessary

Climatic Environment - Inside and Outside

Often subjected to extremes of cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees.

Hazards

Occasionally subjected to extreme noise, vibrations, mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, odors, mists, gases, dust and poor ventilation. Occasionally use special clothing and protective devices.
