Graduate Credit & Degree Advancements (GCDA) Guidelines

To maintain the integrity of our profession, all courses approved for lane advancement must meet the Sioux Falls School District high standards of rigor and relevance, ensuring courses challenge educators intellectually and directly enhance instructional practice.

  • A full course syllabus is required for review.

  • Course descriptions will no longer be accepted.

  • Transcripts are not accepted.

Courses and programs will be reviewed using the GCDA Course/Program Approval Rubric to determine eligibility for lane change approval. The rubric outlines expectations related to relevance, rigor, credit alignment, and course recency.

Please note:

“Pre-approval” does not give you permission to take a course. It only means the course may count toward salary advancement. However, it is strongly recommended that you obtain pre-approval before enrolling in a course.
The approval process explains the steps certified employees must follow to receive a salary increase and is separate from the GCDA Committee’s review of courses or master’s programs.

Approval Process

The GCDA process has two steps, handled by different departments, and they must be completed in order:

  1. GCDA Committee Review (Staff Development)
Staff Development reviews courses and master’s programs. You must submit a GCDA Coursework Pre-Approval Form.

  2. Salary Advancement (Human Resources)
Human Resources handles salary increases. You must submit the Intent and Application Forms for final approval.

Email your GCDA coursework pre-approval forms and required documentation to the Staff Development Department
