REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

High School Diploma; Graduate of a 2 year Vocational/Technical HVAC program of instruction: of equivalent experience, demonstrated record of HVAC/Food Service-related continuing education and training.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Minimum of 36 months of commercial refrigeration, commercial appliance and/or plumbing with heating/boiler systems, or ventilation, and air-conditioning systems as a service technician or field installer or equivalent experience. (other experience can be evaluated against this criterion).  EPA refrigeration certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places.  Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination.  Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.  Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing, standing, stooping, and walking.  Occasional crawling, climbing, crouching, and reaching.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to pass written and hands-on job knowledge/job skill tests administered by Operational Services if required.  Boiler training and experience with boilers required.  Ability to work unsupervised. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction.  Basic computer skills required good attendance. Current State vehicle operator’s license: ability to operate all vehicles in the district fleet safely; insurable.  Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Subject to call beyond the regular workday and weekends when emergency situations arise which require immediate attention. Know and practice good work and safety habits, including knowledge of important MSDS, equipment safety, tool safety and ladder safety guidelines.

Child Nutrition Supervisor, Plant Maintenance Supervisor, Plant Maintenance Mechanical Manager, Plant Maintenance Assistant Mechanical Manager, Director of Operational Services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

This position is a working position and is subject to call beyond the regular workday and weekends when emergency situations arise which requires immediate attention.  The employee’s home commute must be less than 10 miles to the nearest Sioux Falls Public School building.

  1. Coordinates and prioritizes work order requests with other Food Service Equipment Specialist.

  2. Performs corrective (repair) and preventive maintenance on all Food Service equipment at all District facilities without supervision or on-site assistance. Equipment to include but not limited to all heating/cooling systems and equipment, such as ovens, deep fryers, mixers, steam-jacketed kettles, screens and filters, etc. in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications.

  3. Services and maintains Food Service refrigeration units including walk-in coolers and freezers Child Nutrition Center and at all middle schools and high schools, including installing and reclaiming refrigerant. Sharpens and installs blades in cutting equipment.  Cleans and lubricates all equipment as needed.

  4. Examines malfunctioning food service equipment, diagnoses the problem, consults with authorized representative or the manufacturer, orders needed parts and repairs the equipment or recommends replacement.

  5. Performs warehousing responsibilities for the food service center, including receiving and unloading product when necessary.  Trains truck drivers and operates delivery trucks if needed.  Maintains food services vehicles, keeps maintenance records on food service vehicles and equipment.

  6. Performs site maintenance and repair work at all District facilities, such as snow removal, including operating truck-mounted snowplows and sanding equipment.

  7. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.  Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to Plant Maintenance Supervisor.

  8. Assists Plant Maintenance Supervisor with staff training/re-training of new and long-term Operational Service’s employees and provide direction to co-workers to develop their skills.

  9. Responds to facility emergencies when needed.

  10. Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other staff when necessary.

  11. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Occasionally subjected to vibrations, mechanical and electrical hazards, Atmospheric conditions occasionally include fumes and dust.  Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals.
