Requirements
Education Level | Bachelor’s degree and endorsement in any special education or related service area. Certification or licensure: South Dakota teacher certificate or related service license. |

Experience Required | Successful student teaching or related service internship. Experience working with young children and knowledge of early childhood development. |

Other Requirements | Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in computer word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge in implementation of IEP processes and special education law. Training in delivery of standardized assessments and interpretation of assessment results. |

Essential Function & Duties
Completes developmental screens and assessments in accordance with District approved programs of study.
Participates in identification, assessment and IEP/IFSP development and delivery for eligible students.
Maintains student records regarding referral, screening, evaluation, and placements in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
Case manages student individual education programs (IEP) to meet specialized needs of students with disabilities, when necessary.
Coordinates special education documentation regarding the special education processes including referral, evaluation, IEP development and implementation, and related processes in compliance with district, state and federal requirements including timelines.
Participates in parent interviews and communicates with parents informing them of their child’s development and activities to promote growth.
Implements specialized instruction utilizing researched strategies and interventions based on the needs of the students, when necessary.
Participates in IEP meetings and communicates with parents on a routine basis keeping them informed of their child’s progress in compliance with district procedures, when necessary.
Utilizes techniques consistent with the research on characteristics of effective instruction and evaluation procedures.
