Requirements

Education Level

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, counseling/social work, business administration, or a related field

Experience Required

Minimum 2 years experience in program coordination or support in an educational or non-profit setting

Physical Requirements

Constant hearing, hand-eye and mind-eye coordination; frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers, scheduling, sitting, speaking, walking, talking, and writing are required.

Technical Skills

Experience with digital tools for document creation, editing, and meeting facilitation (e.g., Canva, Zoom, Google Meet).

Other Requirements

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships. Strong organizational skills. Ability to plan, organize, and work collaboratively with other teams. Ability to travel to various program sites and community locations with occasional evening, overnight

Position Summary

The Promising Futures Fund, a Sioux Falls non-profit, in conjunction with the Sioux Falls School District is seeking a leader for a new College & Career Access program to support and assist high school students and prepare them for postsecondary education or the workforce.  The Director of College & Career Access will supervise a team of College & Career Advisors who will work directly with Jefferson High School students to help on all facets of applying for 4-year universities, 2-year colleges, military opportunities and career options. This will include testing, the application process, financial aid, scholarships with a special focus on supporting those from low-income backgrounds and first-generation college students. At the end of the first year, the program will expand to other public high schools in the Sioux Falls School District, dependent on funding.  The director will also oversee the additional College & Career Advisors in those buildings.

Essential Functions & Duties

  1. Manage the College & Career Advisors (CCA’s) and direct all aspect of the program

  2. Establish program structure including staff training, data reporting, goal setting and implementation

  3. Participate in hiring College & Career Advisors

  4. Advocate for underrepresented and first-generation college students, providing additional support and resources where needed

  5. Coordinate Promising Futures 8th Grade Program to include facilitation of college and tech school visits, academic days & extra-curricular trips 

  6. Maintain direct metrics and research for 8th Grade & High School Programs

  7. Provide support to the CCA’s with helping students explore college majors, research programs, and understand the college and technical school application and enrollment process. Provide support also to educate students and families about financial aid options, including the FAFSA, scholarships, grants, and loans

  8. Create program to inform students and families about standardized testing (e.g., SAT, ACT), and assist with test preparation

  9. Coordinate opportunities for students to have hands-on experience utilizing the Career & Technical Education Academy and the courses they offer to all high school students

  10. Coordinate workshops and informational sessions on topics like college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and career readiness in conjunction with school counselors

  11. Organize campus visits and events that help students explore careers in a variety of fields

  12. Provide students opportunities for job shadowing, apprenticeships, mentorships and internships

  13. Maintain effective communication with the school counselors, teachers, students, and parents regarding college and career matters

  14. Coordinate with Admissions teams and Financial Aid officers at universities and technical colleges

  15. Ensure CCA’s maintain accurate records of student activities, applications, and financial aid statuses

  16. Prepare reports on the success and challenges of college and technical school readiness initiatives

  17. Track program expenditures, reconcile purchases, and maintain financial documentation to ensure compliance with Promising Futures Fund policies and the Sioux Falls School District processes and policies

  18. Ensure grant compliance, manage supporting documentation, paperwork for audits, and evaluate the effectiveness of programs with data

Hazards

For some buildings, stairs, and exposure to communicable diseases may be a potential hazard. In science labs, there could be exposure to chemicals and fumes. Equipment that supports classroom instruction could be potentially hazardous under certain conditions. Travel between schools will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
