Receives Guidance from Senior Director of Special Services Coordinator of K-12 Behavior Programming Special Services Administrators

Education Level

Two years successful post high school education. Active enrollment in a Bachelor’s program in education or a related field is preferred.

Experience Desired

At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills, knowledge of strategies to support students with behavior disorders, knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and progress monitoring.

Physical Requirements

Requires hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination, keyboarding, and telephoning. Frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands, fingers. Physical support and management of students.

Other Requirements

Regular and reliable attendance. Experience with behavior management and evidence-based behavior supports. Computer competency in word processing, data bases and spreadsheets. Regular contact with students with cognitive, emotional, cognitive and/or conduct-related disorders. Due to the nature of a behavior program and the students assigned to these programs, requires the ability to work in a stressful environment.

Essential Functions & Duties

  1. Implements instructional strategies and specially designed instruction related to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direction of a certified special education teacher.

  2. Conducts observations and collects classroom documentation needed for referral, planning, and reintegration procedures.

  3. Models and trains staff on implementation of behavior intervention plans as well as evidence-based instructional methodology to support student learning.

  4. Maintains data collection as designed by Behavior Specialists, BCBA, or Special Education Teacher.

  5. Records student progress on behavior and/or academic goals under the direction of a certified special education teacher.

  6. Participates in professional learning as required or requested by the District.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Climatic Environment - Inside

Climate controlled environment with some temperature variations. Typically, work is conducted in a comfortable environment.

Hazards

Stairs and exposure to communicable diseases may be potential hazards. In labs/classrooms there could be exposure to toxic chemicals and fumes. Equipment that supports classroom instruction could be potentially hazardous under certain conditions. Regular contact with students with emotional, cognitive and/or conduct related disorders with potentially aggressive, assaultive behaviors resulting in frequent exposure to physical and verbal abuse.
