We started the first whole school musical practice today for “The Beauty and the Beast”! All the students sang through three songs and we got a sneak peek at some of the solos from the main characters! The 4th and 5th graders have already begun their practices on Wednesday afternoons! So much time and effort goes into this performance! Thank you to all of our students for working hard and to all of the staff and parents who make this happen!

Sweet Tooth School Store days are a real hit! Sweet success! Thanks for the support!

Here are your Jane Addams Soaring Eagles for the week of January 17-30! Nice work being responsible, safe, and respectful!

Virtual Reality is awesome!! Miss Leloux’s third graders have virtual reality headsets in their classroom sponsored through a grant from the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation grant two years ago! These headsets allow students to travel the world in the blink of an eye! Look at those smiles! They are a blast to try! They can view animals up close, go inside museums, visit a cave, go inside a volcano, swim with sharks, fly over a city, and so much more!!

It’s game week during Family time!! These games were sponsored by the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation grant last year! Our focus with these activities were for the kids to practice using cooperation, good sportsmanship, learning something new, and working collaboratively with other age students in a small group. Students will stay with their original family but then will rotate to each classroom to try a new activity! The games included Quick Cups, Spot It, Guess in 10, Perfection, Shut the Box, and Otrio! All of these were so fun! Thanks again to our generous sponsors!

❄️ More Snow = More Fun! ❄️

Happy New Year!! Welcome back! After two snow days, students took advantage of the huge snow hills on the playground!! They had so much fun catching up with friends and playing outdoors! Wow, there is a lot of snow to play on!! We are excited to have the kids back!! Hope everyone had a wonderful break!!

SFSD schools start 2-hrs late Thursday, January 5, 2023.

Due to the amount of snow that fell with this winter storm and the time it will take for plows to get into residential neighborhoods, there will be No School, no practices and no activities tomorrow – Wednesday, January 4, 2023. District and school offices will be open.

In addition to there being NO SCHOOL today, an update now includes that SFSD Offices will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan 3, 2023.

Happy holidays from our Jane Addams staff (not all present)! Thank you, parents and volunteers, for all of your help to make our school such a huge success! We appreciate all of your support! Happy New Year!

One of our very own Jane Addams traditions is to read the story, "The Christmas Jars" by Jason F. Wright. Within the story, a journalist happens upon a human interest story that winds up teaching her lessons about love and forgiveness and renewing her own faith in human kindness. On Christmas Eve, twenty-something Hope Jensen is quietly grieving the recent loss of her adoptive mother when her apartment is robbed. The one bright spot in the midst of Hope's despair is a small jar full of money someone has anonymously left on her doorstep. Eager to learn the source of this unexpected generosity, Hope uses her newswoman instincts to find other recipients of "Christmas jars," digging until her search leads her to the family who first began the tradition of saving a year's worth of spare change to give to someone in need at the holiday.
Our Jane Addams community participated in a bubble gum fundraiser so our ACE 5th-graders could embark on delivering our own "Christmas Jars" on December 21.
Many thanks to all who donated -- our Christmas Jars were a surprise blessing to those who received them! Students were able to chew gum on December 20th during school. Our students and families are so blessed to be a part of a community that continues to value, honor, and keep this tradition alive!

Kids Care was unfortunately cancelled because we did not have school on December 16 due to severe winter weather. That did not stop the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from still completing some of their service missions planned! Many students used parts of their indoor recess or class time to finish making some tie blankets to those in need. What a sweet gesture! Big thank you to the parents for helping prepare the blankets for the kids to do! Also, thank you to Mrs. Van Duyn and Kristen Benidt for their help organizing this campaign! The kids enjoyed helping others! Way to go!

On December 19th, students and staff were encouraged to bring in their favorite holiday book to either read to themselves, with a friend, or to the class! We love reading!
