All the classrooms have such festive bulletin boards for the holiday season! Thank you to many of the parents who helped create or design them! We appreciate the help, volunteers! They always turn out so cute! We also have some fun artwork displayed in the halls as well!

Today is a beautiful December day, but we know it can't last forever in South Dakota! Make sure you and your student(s) know how to access Canvas for remote learning when weather that keeps kids home can be predicted in advance.

Here is a quick reminder about this awesome easy way to recognize our teachers!

Here are the High Flyers for this week! We are proud of them for displaying qualities of respect, responsibility, and safety!

On Dec. 6th, Ashley Armstrong from SURF (Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead) came to teach the ACE students all about what it takes to be a scientist, the experiments they are doing there at SURF, gave them virtual tours of the underground tunnels, and so much more! Kids even got to dress up in the scientists gear and ask her lots of questions! We really enjoy when she comes each year to share new things and we even got the special treat of having her daughter joins us in helping out! Miss Leloux used to coach Ashley when she was in high school so we are thankful for that connection which brought that full circle to come teach our students! So fun! Thanks for coming, Ashley!

This week in Family we had a kickoff celebration to learn about Habit 3-Put First Things First (work first, then play.) Kids focused on prioritizing their time to accomplish their goals. They can set priorities, make a schedule, and follow a plan. These 7 habits are taught throughout the year to help students build confidence, be a leader/good role model, and accomplish their goals.

Science Club students learned about diffusion by doing experiments with candy and warm water and then again with a pile of sugar in the middle. Afterwards they learned about how sweat keeps us cool by wrapping a chocolate bar on a wet towel and one in a dry one and having them both heated up at the same rate. The kids had a blast learning through discovery!

On Monday, students earned a "hat day" for getting 3,000 tickets as a school through our PBIS behavior program! Way to go!

Chess Club members love battling each other each week! We enjoy seeing their competitive spirit come alive!

We are sad to see our two USF student teachers finish up on their last day at ACE on Thursday! We have enjoyed Anna Ginter working with Mrs. Rausis in second grade and Olivia Fox working with Mrs. Gray in fifth grade! We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors! They will be awesome teachers any school would be lucky to have in the near future!

Here is a reminder about the TOY nominations! Each year, the Sioux Falls School District has open nominations for the 36th Annual Dr. John W. Harris "Teacher of the Year" award. This award will be given to a teacher who demonstrates outstanding qualities in instruction, engaging lessons, is dedicated to their profession, leader in their school, etc. The winner would receive $4,000 in prize money donated by Vern Eide! Please consider nominating a deserving teacher today! The nominations are due by January 15, 2024! Use this link to nominate today! https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/teacher-of-the-year-program

Here are our High Flying Eagle Leaders this past week! We are so proud of them for being safe, responsible, and respectful!

December swimming Friday was a blast! Kids love getting to swim and play with their friends at the Embe pool!

Third graders got to build a marshmallow snowman for a teamwork project. This project was designed by Parker High School senior, Katie Bialas, doing her senior internship this fall with Miss Leloux and Miss Joffer. Fun fact is Miss Leloux had Katie as a kindergarten student in Parker! The students have enjoyed their time with her! Thanks for all of your help, Katie.
