The Community Learning Centers, with the SFSD, is offering a summer program for students that will have completed K-5th grade during the 24/25 school year. The program runs M-F, 6:30am-6pm, from May 29 through Aug 14.

🎉 Congratulations to our amazing teachers at Oscar Howe Elementary! 🎉
We are excited to announce that the following educators have received Public School Proud Grants from the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation to enhance learning in their classrooms:
✨ Melissa Guebert, Amanda Hotchkin, Rebecca Josephson, and Josee Biberdorf for their grant project "Making Math Memorable" – they will be purchasing math and critical thinking games for their 3rd grade students!
✨ Sara Wiebelhaus for her grant "Building Bright Minds" – she will be bringing STEM and logic games, plus construction sets, to her kindergarten classroom!
✨ Lindsey Hinsch for her grant "Morning Manipulatives" – she will be adding 16 STEM bins to her 2nd grade classroom for hands-on learning!
✨ Amy Staples for her grant "PE on the Move" – she will be purchasing cup stacking and dice games for fun, active learning in her PE classes!
We are so proud of these dedicated teachers and the creative ways they are making a difference in our students' lives. 👏📚🎲 Keep up the amazing work!
🎶 What a fantastic experience for our 3rd graders at Oscar Howe Elementary today! 🎶
Our students had the wonderful opportunity to attend The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra's Young People's Concert at the stunning Mary W. Sommervold Hall in Sioux Falls! 🎻✨
Led by assistant conductor Nicholas Sharma, the concert provided an engaging and educational experience. Students were guided through the music with narration and an introduction to the different instruments of the orchestra. It was a perfect opportunity for our 3rd graders to connect with the beauty of live orchestral music! 🎼🎶

In the Sioux Falls School District, every student's journey is unique. For many of the kids we serve, our school social workers are there every step of the way! Whether offering a listening ear, connecting families to resources, or advocating for students' well-being, their dedication ignites hope and creates lasting impact in our schools.
This year's theme, Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact, is a perfect reflection of how our social workers bring people together to create brighter futures for students.

Today, the Concordia University Women’s Basketball team made an amazing visit to Oscar Howe Elementary! 🏀🎉 The students had a blast interacting with the players, learning about teamwork, and getting some inspiration. Check out these pictures from the fun day!
March is going to be a wonderful month for reading!! March 3-7 is Read Across America Week. We are also doing a community reading program with the City of Sioux Falls called Everybody Reads for March. So we are kicking off March with some fun dress-up days. Students are asked to write down the titles of books they read or parents read to them. They will get to hang a sticker when they come to the library for each book read. Please help your students track their books. Last year we read 14,254 books so this year we have a goal of 15,000 books. Happy Reading !!!

We are still celebrating last night's wonderful Teacher of the Year event! So many amazing educators to celebrate! Congratulations again to 2025 Teacher of the Year, Bruce Rekstad, who left with a $4,000 check, courtesy of our friends at Vern Eide. Also, a huge congratulations to the other four finalists, Jennifer Aerts, Bryan Aukerman, Scott Amundson, and Jessica Foley. New this year, thanks to the generosity of the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation, these four finalists walked away with $1,000 each. So many wonderful memories were shared last night! We are so grateful to everyone who attended, from nominees and their friends and families to past ToY winners, past educators, school board members, SDEA friends, and SFSD administrators, it truly was an unforgettable night!
