Marcella LeBeau Elementary is quickly taking shape and turning from a construction site into a colorful, and state-of-the-art school campus in northwest Sioux Falls. Students will begin classes there on August 21, 2025. Meanwhile, Principal Patrick Purdy is busy getting staff hired and equipment ordered so the school is move-in ready when the construction crews hand over the keys.
Mr. Purdy is looking forward to building a family-friendly culture at Marcella LeBeau. We asked him a few questions to find out more about his goals for the school.
Why are you interested in opening this new school? This was also a rare opportunity to get the chance to open a new school for the District. I am excited about the opportunity to build a new staff to support students at Marcella LeBeau academically, socially, and emotionally.
What part of the process to open Marcella LeBeau has been most surprising? The most surprising part was the amount of personnel involved in making decisions. We really have a clear process on what it takes and the moving parts from different departments to get the school open. Most fun? The fun part was finalizing colors, layouts, and building plans. It creates a whole new energy and excitement about the opening of Marcella LeBeau.
What can families expect in terms of school culture at Marcella LeBeau Elem? I want families to know we will create a community of leaders and follow core values of treating others the way they want to be treated. We will have clear expectations and procedures in place for staff and students.
Who inspires you? My Grandma Jackie Purdy. She has always led by example and values people for who they are and finds the best in them. She is 93 years old and continues to serve on numerous committees for the community. She is always looking to help and I live to follow in her footsteps!
What do you like to do in your spare time? I am all about playing sports and new adventures. There isn't a game or activity I won't play.
What is your favorite professional team? (any of these - NFL, NBA, MBL, etc?) I do not have a favorite professional team, but I love watching sports. I am all about the Nebraska Cornhuskers!
Tell us about your family. I am married to my beautiful wife Darcy, and we are blessed with three boys, Briggs, Nash and Madden. We also have our loving dog Bear who is an Australian Labradoodle. We are a very active family and love spending time in the gym or playing outside.
We look forward to hosting students and families for tours and the open house in August!
