Jefferson students excelled at the district-wide Welding 1 competition last week, which included participants from all four Sioux Falls high schools. A total of 32 students from Jefferson signed up to compete, where they were challenged to fabricate a metal tool tray using a blueprint provided on the spot. Judged on weld quality and performance on a written test, students were also timed on their fabrication skills.
Among approximately 140 competitors, Rai Satibanchong placed 4th in the Welding 1 division, while Cooper Dykstra earned 2nd place in the Advanced Welding competition. Jefferson's welding team also earned top honors overall, taking 1st place for the highest average team score—an impressive 88.3 out of 125.
