Wishing everyone a fun, relaxing, and safe summer! You’ve earned it! ☀️📚😎

What a day at Edison! We loved welcoming our future 6th graders—filled with music from our jazz band, high-energy performances from Inventions, and campus tours led by our awesome WEB leaders. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to see these future Cats back in the halls soon!

The last day of school is Wednesday, May 21. What a year it’s been — thanks for being part of it!

Our 8th grade Oceti Sakowin Owauspe students were honored last night in a beautiful and meaningful graduation ceremony. The evening was filled with powerful messages of positivity, deep respect for culture, and hope for the future. Families, community members, and educators gathered together to celebrate the hard work, resilience, and achievements of these young leaders. As we reflected on the teachings and traditions of the Oceti Sakowin, we were reminded of the strength that comes from knowing who we are and where we come from. Wopila to all who joined us in lifting up and honoring our students during this special graduation ceremony. We are so proud of each of them and excited to see where their journeys will lead.

RECORD BROKEN!
Congratulations to Janiyah Powell, Alyssa Formey, Maggie Southwick, and Finley Grosdidier for breaking the 7th Grade Edison Girls 4x100 Relay record at the Dakota Relays with an incredible time of 55.92. This team earned 3rd place at the relays in front of a full house at Howard Wood. It was a beautiful evening at the track and an unforgettable night for Edison history.
Well done, ladies!

We want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing club advisors and community partners at Edison Middle School. Bringing clubs back this year has been transformational — creating a vibrant, inclusive community where every student can discover their passions, build friendships, and feel like they truly belong.
These clubs wouldn’t exist without the countless hours of unpaid volunteer time, creativity, and dedication from our staff and partners. You’ve given students a safe space to connect, learn, and grow — and for that, we are endlessly grateful.
Kindness Club – Christine Hupke & Mollie Weflen
Theater Club – Eric Klepel & Erica Mason
Movie Club – Ridge Percival & TJ Williams
Craft Club – Meagan Fogarty & Emma Nelsen
Game Club – Ashley Benson (Startup by Turbulent Games)
Guitar Club – Amber Sundvold (Led by UpTempo Music Lessons)
Cooking Club – Lisa Hoekstra (Led by YMCA)
Babysitting Club – Wendy Long (Led by YMCA)
Collision – Seth Randall
Your time, heart, and selfless commitment have made Edison a place where everyone can find their people. Thank you for making a difference.

🌟 Happy School Principal’s Day to Mrs. Blume! 🌟
At Edison Middle School, we’re proud to have a leader who lives the Edison DREAM every day. Mrs. Blume leads by example — showing up with purpose, setting clear expectations, and always putting students and staff first. She makes it a priority to call students by name and build real connections that matter.
Her dedication to creating a positive, supportive school culture is clear in everything from how she encourages her staff to how she celebrates student growth. Edison is stronger because of her leadership, and we’re grateful for the energy and commitment she brings to our school community.
Thank you, Mrs. Blume, for all you do to make Edison Middle School a place where everyone can succeed and belong!

Lost & Found Alert!
Our very full Lost and Found has been laid out inside the north doors by the cafeteria. Please have your student stop by and check for any missing items.
All unclaimed items will be donated next Friday, May 9th — don’t wait to reclaim your things!

🌟 Last week, we celebrated Administrative Professionals Day! 🌟
A huge THANK YOU to Jenny, Erin, Rebecca, Carly, Lisa, and Kim — the incredible team that keeps Edison Middle School running smoothly every day! Whether it’s in the main office, counseling office, library, or supporting as our IEP facilitator, each of you plays a vital role in helping our students, staff, and families.
Your hard work, organization, and welcoming spirit make a difference in ways big and small. We couldn’t do what we do without you! To show our appreciation, the team enjoyed a much-deserved lunch out — a small way to say thank you for everything you do for our school community.
We are so grateful for you!

Congratulations to our April Students of the Month!
You truly exemplify the Edison DREAM.
We’re proud of your hard work and dedication—keep it up!

Mrs. McKay’s 6th grade class has been exploring topics like water conservation, recycling, and how to reduce and reuse in their reading workshop.
In honor of Earth Day, the class took action by cleaning up around the school to help keep our environment beautiful. Way to go, Cats! 🌎💚♻️

SD Assessment Testing is Next Week! (Monday–Thursday)
Here are a few important reminders to help our students do their best:
1. Mints & Gum Donations – If you’re able to donate mints or gum for students to use during testing, we’d be so grateful!
2. Earbuds – Students must have wired earbuds (no Bluetooth/wireless). Available in the office for $1.
3. Charged Chromebooks – Please make sure Chromebooks are fully charged each day. Chargers in backpacks = a smart idea!
4. No Phones/Watches/Fitbits – These must be turned off and kept in lockers during testing.
5. Be On Time – Testing starts 1st period. A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and arriving on time make a big difference!
Thanks for your support as we cheer on our students!

It’s Assistant Principals Week, and we’re celebrating two incredible leaders at EMS!
We are beyond grateful for our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kallas, who brings a calm presence, a contagious smile, and unwavering dedication to everything she does. From supporting students and staff to managing the many moving parts of our day, she leads with heart and positivity. Oh—and she's also the reigning Bus Duty Champion.
We’re also lucky to have our amazing Admin Intern, Mr. Robel, who wears many hats—especially as our Athletic Coordinator. His passion for student success, enthusiasm for Edison sports, and hands-on leadership have made a huge impact this year.
Together, they help bring the Edison DREAM to life every day by creating a positive, supportive, and high-energy environment for all.

Spring Sports Are in Full Swing at Edison!
Did you know EMS has the highest number of student-athletes participating in spring sports out of all the middle schools in the district? We’re so proud of our students for showing up, working hard, and supporting each other.
Check out some snapshots from our recent events!
You can find all spring sports schedules at the Bound link below. Come out to an event and join our amazing community as we cheer each other on. Go Cats!

Happy Librarian Appreciation Day!
A huge thank you to our Librarian, Mrs. Smith and our Library Clerical, Mrs. Hoekstra for all they do to make the library a place of learning, discovery, and fun. From recommending great books to helping students explore new ideas, their kindness and dedication make a difference every day. We appreciate all the hard work, patience, and passion they bring to our school!
