Today was an extra sweet day for our 2nd graders as they visited Oh My Cupcakes!
Chef McKenna gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the magical cupcake kitchen, where students saw all the special tools of the trade and watched the cupcake ninjas frost at lightning speed! It was so exciting to see where thousands of cupcakes are made every single day.
We also loved hearing Miss Melissa share the story of how Oh My Cupcakes began in her home 17 years ago and grew into a bakery with two locations and a team of 37. Such an inspiring reminder of how big dreams can grow!
And the icing on the cupcake? Spotting Cookie Dough Delight by Ivy in the bakery case! You have until Saturday to stop in and try this student-designed treat—don’t miss it! 🧁

Students in 103 shared their learning in Music and Drama with their families during today’s Informance.
An Informance is an informal performance designed to inform the audience about the learning taking place in the classroom, while also giving our young artists a chance to practice performing in front of others.

Two collaborative artworks created by EFA+ students were featured in the heArt of the City Art Show!
Both pieces were created during our December Multiple Intelligences Day and were inspired by our love for our A+ school.
The heArt of the City Art Show celebrates artwork made from found objects. For our pieces, we used donated vintage magazines—some dating back to the early 1980s!
We created nature-themed artworks to align with the found-object focus and to highlight our Nature Smart skills.
We Love A+ (the tree piece), created by students from Rooms 201, 202, 203, 401, 403, and 502 and led by Mrs. D. Soper, earned Second Place in the 2D Art category. 🌿🎉

Fourth grade students used their word, self, and people smarts to collaboratively create posters representing the various trade goods used by the ancient African empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Students first selected three goods to research, then synthesized their findings to create a comprehensive poster for each item.

Our 3rd quarter cupcake is "Cookie Dough Delight" by Ivy!
Cookie Dough Delight is made of chocolate cake, topped with cookie dough frosting, mini chocolate chips, & mini m&ms.
Ivy's cupcake design will be featured in the Oh My Cupcakes bakery next week: January 12-17th.

On Wednesday, the 3rd and 4th grade students had the opportunity to enjoy a performance by the Dakota Wind Quartet.

Students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade collaborated on two pieces that will be on display at the heArt of the City Art & Fashion Show this Friday from 5-7:30 at Whittier Middle School.
We hope you can stop by, view the art, and vote for your favorite pieces.

The new calendar year brings new experiences in Dance! Students have the opportunity to build strength and flexibility through exercises on our brand new vibration plates.

Wishing you an A+ winter break and the happiest of holidays from all of us at EFA+!

We were so lucky to have many of our EFA+ alumni with us today for MI Day!
We needed to get sentimental for a moment and snap some photos of our special guests in the EFA+ Musical Hall of Fame!

Today we celebrated our first Multiple Intelligences Day of the year! This MI Day honored our 25 years as an A+ School. We were so fortunate to welcome many former students and staff members back as presenters.
Enjoy some highlights from this fun, engaging day of learning!

We know the holiday season is already a busy time for our EFA+ families, so instead of adding traditional dress-up days to your plate, we decided to try an “underground” dress-up week!
Our staff dressed according to a different theme each day, acted as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening, and patiently waited for students to catch on. It was such a fun experience for everyone!
Our dress-up days included:
• Flannel
• Monochromatic
• Beach Day
• Socks with Sandals (plus anything but a cup for our beverages!)
• Denim on Denim

As we head into this holiday season, we thought it would be the perfect time to share a little EFA+ Musical throwback joy! 🎄✨ Enjoy this look back at last year’s musical performance of Elf Jr.—a wonderful reminder of our students’ talent, creativity, and hard work. We hope this throwback brings a smile to your face and a little extra holiday cheer as we celebrate this time of year together. 💙🎶

Last night, Ms. Mickelson and the EFA+ Treble Makers performed at Holiday Jam with the Hegg Brothers at the Washington Pavilion.
We are so proud of these talented young people and grateful to have such a spectacular teacher and professional performing artist leading them.

5th grade students lived out what they learned about the Columbian Exchange by engaging in an economic exchange of items they bought or made themselves!

Did you know that Pantone chose "cloud dancer" aka: white as their color of the year? Well...in art, the 3rd graders taking a different path and working on the 100 Colors Challenge! They are using their knowledge of the color wheel to mix and paint 100 different colors.

Yesterday the 4th and 5th grade Orchestra and the 5th grade Band presented their winter concert.
They have learned a lot in a short amount of time!

Concert season is in full swing!
Last week the 2nd graders presented their vocal music concert "We Are A+". This was a musical celebration of all things A+ learning!
