🚜 CTE Internship Spotlight
Charlie Heylens, a junior from Jefferson High School, is gaining valuable hands-on experience through his internship at Anderson Farms Feedyard under the supervision of Owner Jesse Anderson.
During his internship, Charlie has been learning many important aspects of cattle and feedyard operations including:
• Servicing and maintaining equipment
• Feeding cattle and checking pens
• Cleaning and bedding pens
• Care and treatment of cattle
• Sorting and loading cattle onto semi-trucks to be transported to Tyson in Sioux City
• Using technology such as the Feed Mix App to manage feed inventory and measurements
Charlie plans to attend agriculture college in Wyoming after graduation to continue pursuing his passion for the agricultural industry. We are proud of the real-world skills he is developing through this CTE internship experience! 🌾🐄

🐷 Exciting news from our Animal Science program!
Sage, our Momma Sow, had her babies here at CTE, and students were able to experience the entire process firsthand. Sage welcomed 14 piglets (5 boys and 9 girls) on March 13th, and our students have been helping care for them every day.
This hands-on experience gave students the opportunity to see the farrowing process and learn about livestock care, responsibility, and animal management in a real-world setting. We are proud of the dedication our students show each day!

Garfield Elementary students recently had an exciting day of hands-on learning at the CTE Academy! 🎥🍕🧁 As a proud Leader in Me Lighthouse School, Garfield empowers students to grow as leaders through the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, encouraging goal-setting, teamwork, and active participation in their school community.
During their visit, students explored career-focused experiences by creating digital videos, answering interview-style questions, and diving into culinary arts—where they made their own pizzas and decorated cupcakes. It was a fun and engaging way to connect leadership skills with real-world learning! 👩🍳🎬
Students especially loved watching their finished videos and enjoying the delicious treats they created. Experiences like these continue to support Garfield’s commitment to developing the whole child while building confidence, creativity, and a love for learning. 🌟

The CTE Academy is proud to announce that Mr. Brockmueller has been selected as the new Administrative Intern. He will be stepping into this role as he prepares to fill the shoes of Don Ryswyk, our Assistant Principal who will be retiring in June 2026.
Mr. Brockmueller has been a longtime member of the CTE Academy family with more than 24 years of classroom experience. He currently teaches our Computer Technology courses, where he has inspired countless students with his knowledge, dedication, and passion for technology and education. 💻

Students from the CTE Academy of Finance and CTE Exploration had an incredible opportunity to visit the First PREMIER Bank Operations Center and learn from professionals across multiple departments about careers in finance, banking, and business operations.
A huge thank you to Jamie Salonen from Direct Loan Services for organizing this valuable experience for our students! 👏
Our students learned from several team members about how different departments work together to serve customers and keep the bank running efficiently:

Our Digital Media students at CTE celebrated by exploring how music plays a powerful role in media and storytelling. From learning how sound influences emotion in videos to experimenting with audio editing and production, students discovered how music can transform digital content.
Music is more than just something we hear—it helps tell stories, create atmosphere, and connect with audiences in meaningful ways. Our students had a great time getting creative and seeing how sound design enhances the media we experience every day.

🏠 Big progress for our Carpentry students! 🔨
Our Habitat for Humanity house is officially completed on our students’ end, and we couldn’t be more proud of the work they’ve put into this build. From framing to finishing touches, students gained valuable hands-on experience throughout the entire project.
Over at the CTE House, the cabinets are officially going in, and the covered porch is wrapping up! It’s exciting to see both projects coming together and to watch our students’ hard work turn into real homes.

We had the opportunity to learn from Derek Franken, Professor of Accounting & Finance at the University of South Dakota!
Students explored how to analyze publicly traded companies using the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission website (SEC.gov) — diving into real financial data like:
✔️ Inventory
✔️ Accounts Receivable
✔️ Debt Ratio
✔️ Equity Ratio
✔️ And more!
Learning how to interpret these metrics gives our students real-world insight into how businesses operate, perform, and make financial decisions. This is hands-on finance at its best! 💰📈

From hands-on Skills Saturdays at Sanford Health to learning from our recent guest speaker Jed, an athletic trainer, our students are gaining real-world experience that goes beyond the classroom.
At Sanford, they’ve been sharpening critical EMT skills, building confidence, and applying what they’ve learned in high-pressure scenarios. Hearing from an athletic trainer also gave them great insight into injury assessment, on-field emergencies, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
We love seeing our students take advantage of every opportunity to grow and prepare for the NREMT and their future careers in emergency medicine! 💪
