Stringed Quartet

Yesterday, 4th and 5th grade students at Cleveland enjoyed a performance from The Stringed Quartet which is affiliated with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra.

Members took time to share what country they lived in prior to coming to the United States and auditioning for the Symphony.

They also took time to share about their instruments. There were two violins, a viola and a cello.  They explained the difference between them, and played notes to show the different sounds each one makes, from the highest note to the lowest note.

Members of the quartet divided the group into fourths and helped lead the students in a round of Row Row Row Your Boat, while playing their designated instrument.

Students then had the opportunity to ask questions. One student asked how old the instruments they were playing were? One of the members said the newest instrument was 3 years old and the oldest was up to 200 years old. Another student asked how old they were when they started playing. The response was between 4 and 7 years old.

It was a very informative performance. Thank you to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra for providing this experience from our students!!
