Qualifications for Pre-K-12 substitute staff include educational experience, work history, and positive employment and personal references.
The Human Resources Department is responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, and personnel actions of substitute staff members. Selection of substitute staff is based on a process of evaluating qualifications, including background checks, coordinated by the Human Resources Department.
Additionally, all Pre-K-12 substitute staff assignments are made by the Human Resources Department according to principal preference and substitute staff qualifications. A centralized substitute management system with phone call and web access will fill positions identified by administration and emergency needs identified by staff.
If a substitute teacher works one-half day or less, the substitute will receive one-half (1/2) day's pay. If the substitute teacher works more than one-half (1/2) day, the substitute will be paid a full day's salary. Substitute staff members in hourly positions will receive an hourly rate of pay based on time worked.
Substitute staff employment is on-call, as needed work, typically during the school year only. Substitute staff members have a reasonable reassurance of continued employment each fall, subject to job performance and staffing needs.
