Interscholastic High School Activities and Events
News media (as defined by SDCL 13-1-57(2)) may engage in journalism (as defined by SDCL 13-1-57(1)) to the public for regular season interscholastic high school activities and events. Complimentary athletic passes will be issued to the news media by the Coordinator of Athletics/Physical Education’s office.
If news media seek to engage in journalism from a District designated media area, a request shall be referred to the Coordinator of Athletics/Physical Education or individual building administrator for prior approval. Designated media areas will be reasonably defined with the safety of student athletes/performers in mind. Approval will be on space available basis.
Communication Lines and/or Equipment
Arrangements and all costs associated with any communication line or equipment installation, etc., required by the news media to engage in journalism shall be the responsibility of news media, subject to the approval of the Coordinator of Athletics/Physical Education or building administration. If news media seek to engage in journalism by accessing District productions, news media are subject to any fees associated with the distribution of content produced by the District.
Separate request and approval must be sought from the Coordinator of Athletics/Physical Education for football playoff games at Howard Wood Field or by building administrator for tournament games played at the high schools beyond the regular athletic season. All news media will be required to have South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) issued media badges for playoff/tournament games.
