KLRN Television – Sioux Falls’ Classroom Connection
Section 611 of the Communications Act authorizes local franchising authorities to require cable operators to set aside channels for public, educational, or governmental (PEG) use. PEG channels are not mandated by federal law; rather, they are a right given to the franchising authority, which it may choose to exercise.
The Sioux Falls School District has secured an Educational Access Channel through Midcontinent Communications’ franchise from the City of Sioux Falls. The cable channel provided to the School District will be used for the purpose of providing high-quality programming in an ongoing effort to inform, educate and entertain students, parents, and the general public.
