Student Health Services
School Based Health Services
Health programs in the Sioux Falls School District are designed to encourage healthful living for students and staff. Good health supports successful learning and successful learning supports health. Services include such areas as: emergency care, referral, health assessment and individualized nursing care, health screening, required immunizations, health education and counseling for individuals and groups, and related record keeping.
School Based Health Centers
School Based Health Centers provide primary and preventative health services to uninsured and medically underserved children. Designed to help remove barriers in accessing primary health services and provide quality, consistent care to students, the School Based Health Center will be available for families of the host school if the parent chooses care in that setting. The Center will provide primary and preventative care, acute care, chronic care and referral as necessary.
Located in designated school buildings, School Based Health Centers are operated by health care agencies through an agreement with the District.
The Center will be integrated into the school environment and coordinate health services between the Center and school personnel. The provider has overall responsibility for administration, operations, oversight, standard of care, and employment of the clinic staff. The provider may bill insurance, Medicaid, or Children’s Health Insurance Program. There will be no fees required to be collected at the time services are provided. A sliding fee schedule based upon family income guidelines will be used to establish cost sharing for services. No student will be turned away from the Center due to insurance, health status, or because of an inability to pay for care.
