Contests for Students
Contests: Typically one-time or annual events that result in a singular winner or a limited number of winners. A “contest” cannot be created or used to circumvent policy KHC: Distribution/ Posting of Informational/Political Materials.
Outside organizations must request permission through the Office of Community Relations/Community Education to conduct student contests. The request must include a statement expressing the educational objectives the activity is expected to serve and a copy of any flyers and/or information that will be sent home with students. The Community Relations Supervisor will communicate with the appropriate curriculum coordinator before disposition of the request.
Contests must be appropriate to the District curriculum and be designed to benefit youth in educational, civic, social, and ethical development. The contest must not conflict with the District’s interests nor should profit be realized at the expense of the participants. Contests that do not directly correspond to District curriculum, that conflict with the interests of the District, or are profit-oriented will not be approved. Flyers that are proposed to be sent home with students in conjunction with the contest must be relevant to the specifics of the contest and not contain any extraneous information, other than the name of the sponsor.
To be approved, contests cannot be required of students and must not place an undue burden on students, professional staff, or schools. Each building will decide whether it chooses to participate in those contests that have been approved by the Community Relations Supervisor.
