The facilities of the Sioux Falls School District represent a substantial investment by the community.
An effective educational program requires clean, safe, and well maintained facilities. It is the goal of the School Board to provide schools that are suitable settings for learning, secure, safe from hazards, sanitary, properly equipped, lighted, and ventilated.
The Board acknowledges that normal deterioration from natural elements and ordinary use will occur and desires that a continuing program for the maintenance of all District operated facilities be established.
The Director of Operational Services and the building principal or location supervisor of each building are responsible for the care and protection of these facilities.
Operational Services oversees all facilities owned or leased by the District. Staff members will work to maintain the integrity of all buildings, minimize fire hazards, reduce the probability of faulty equipment, and protect against vandalism and burglary.
Although building maintenance is a primary concern of the District’s custodial staff, maintaining clean and orderly school buildings is the responsibility of all staff members and outside groups who use the facilities. Everyone needs to be thoughtful and cooperative, not only regarding their own actions but also in developing standards and habits on the part of the students.
The principal or location supervisor will continuously monitor their respective facility and its equipment, the playground and its apparatus, the parking lots, and playing fields in order to insure the safety and comfort of the students and staff.
