From sport, music and drama to personal development and community service programs. There are a whole range of benefits that come from involvement in these programs.
In addition to building skills within a specific discipline, extracurricular activities are great for developing general academic and soft skills. Balancing a number of commitments can help to improve your child’s time management skills, while finding an area they enjoy or excel at can boost self-confidence.

Spanish Immersion
The vision of the Spanish Immersion Program is to prepare students with the knowledge, skills and global perspective necessary to impact tomorrow’s interconnected world. The program is grounded in rigorous academic standards that are infused with the rich diversity of Spanish and English languages and cultures. Becoming bilingual will open doors to unique opportunities for all graduates. The Spanish Immersion experience continues at Lincoln High School.
The mission of the Sioux Falls School District Spanish Immersion Program is to successfully educate each student while developing biliteracy and fostering global competency in an ever-changing world.
Students in this program will:
Improve formal Spanish language skills, advancing their proficiency with language use necessary for college and career success.
Earn AP credit for one, or possibly two, AP Spanish courses.
Have the opportunity to earn college credit through the Capstone course.
Earn the Seal of Biliteracy upon meeting established criteria.
Students currently attending the Middle School Spanish Immersion Program are automatically assigned to Lincoln High School to continue their immersion experience. Students may choose to attend one of the other Sioux Falls high schools and travel to Lincoln High School for their Spanish Immersion class if the schedule allows. However, transportation is the individual’s responsibility.

Marine Corps JROTC
Congratulations to LHS MCJROTC and the cadets who worked hard to earn this distinction! LHS MCJROTC has been designated a National Naval Honor School. This designation is earned by the top 20% of all Marine Corps JROTC units in the nation. Units are judged by multiple criteria, including ceremonial events, volunteer work, scholastic performance, and semi-annual Inspector General inspections. This is the first time LHS MCJROTC has received this national title.
Established in 2000. The purpose of the program is designed to instill in high school students a value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school, and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, community, and nation.
