R. F. Pettigrew Elementary is Sioux Falls' newest elementary school located in the southwest part of the city near 53rd Street and Grinnell Avenue. The school welcomed its first students - approximately 425 of them - on Monday, August 17, 2009. R.F. Pettigrew is a 4-section K-5 school and is an Early Childhood site.

The name R.F. Pettigrew Elementary was chosen by a committee of parents, community members, teachers, a School Board Member and an administrator. R.F. Pettigrew was a successful Sioux Falls businessman, politician and community leader. He was a member of Sioux Falls' first School Board in 1873.

Mission: To educate and prepare each student to succeed in a changing world by emphasizing growth in social skills, emotional well-being, and academic progress.

2014 Report Card: The 2014 Report Card contains information about attendance, the percent of core classes taught by highly qualified teachers, and performance on the DSTEP Science test administered to 5th graders. Due to special circumstances, there is no student achievement information for math and reading in 2014.
